News Roundup #10
In the rush of Christmas and the New Year (Happy New Year everyone!) I’ve had little time to compile a news round-up. But not to worry: today’s post is huuuuuge. So please enjoy and comment with what you think/are looking forward to!
First off, something that Moira Young posted on her Facebook regarding the sequel to the critically acclaimed Blood Red Road (which, incidentally, has just won the Costa award). The title has been confirmed as Rebel Heart– a fitting title, I think. As well as that, Scholastic are reprinting Blood Red Road with beautiful new covers. Expected publication of Rebel Heart is August this year (2012).
Paramount Studios have also been in talks to aquire the film rights to Daughter of Smoke and Bone, a intruiging novel by Laini Taylor that was released last October. For those who have read Daughter of Smoke and Bone this is hardly a surprise.
Most of you must by now have realised that I am a huge fan of Chris d’Lacey’s The Last Dragon Chronicles– and this year sees the publication of the final novel in the series, The Fire Ascending, which is being published this April in the UK. For die hard-fans, you can read an extract of the culmination to the series on Chris’ blog.
In his Christmas newsletter, Robert Muchamore revealed the cover of the second Aramov adventure: Guardian Angel. Clearly, the novel involves some sort of plane-crash! Guardian Angel is due in August. 2012 also sees the publication of the fourth and fifth Henderson’s Boys adventurse, The Prisoner (Febuary – read extract) and the One Shot Kill (November).
And finally, before I smother you with book trailers, Christopher Paolini, author of the Inheritance Cycle, announces that his next project will be a sci-fi short story that will lead up to a full length novel. There isn’t much more to be had than that: he seems very uptight about it all!
The last three or four weeks has seen the posting of several book trailers of lots of 2012’s early YA hits:
Pure, by Jullianna Baggot
Pure is being released on the 2nd of February. I managed to read it back in April last year and loved it; look out for my review of this fantastically atmospheric post-apocalyptic novel in the next couple of weeks.
The Fault in Our Stars by John Green
If you haven’t heard of John Green, or haven’t heard of The Fault in Our Stars then I don’t know where you’ve been in the past several months. This is being released in around a week, and is set to be supercalifragilisticexpialidociously awesome.
This trailer is exclusive to Entertainment Weekly. They’ve also posted an interview with John. Scroll down for the trailer.
The Rising, the sequel to Will Hill’s Department 19.
Many of you will have heard of Department 19- a compelling modern-day sequel of sorts to Dracula. It’s bloody and brutal- and well worth reading!
Wereworld: Shadow of the Hawk, the third sequel to Rise of the Wolf by Curtis Jobling
Curtis Jobling seems to be on a roll- he’s publishing two of his Wereworld novels every year! I’m currently reading Shadow of the Hawk (which has just been published), and it’s really enjoyable. Expect my review soon!
Partials by Dan Wells
Dan Wells is the author of the fantastic I Am Not A Serial Killer trilogy, and Partials is his next series. This time round, he’s going for a post-apocalyptic/dystopian novel- where, according the description, “the concept of what it means to be human is called into question”.
